What are you looking for in acrylic nail kits? Kits vary in size from containing just the basics to make the acrylic or gel nails to having a nail drill as well.

An acrylic nail kit with the basics may contain: acrylic powder, acrylic liquid, glue, sculpting brush and nail file. There will also be an assortment of tips, possibly 20 natural tips and 20 white tips.

However, if you are just starting to do your own nails at home you may need a more comprehensive acrylic nail kit which also contains a nail drill for filing, buffing, shaping and drilling. Some drills are of a professional quality but will still need a little practice to use to get that perfect result.

Some points you may want to consider about a nail drill:-

  • Is it comfortable to hold?
  • Has it got variable speeds?
  • Can you change the attachments easily?
  • Is it a battery or electrically operated one?
  • Would a professional use it?
  • Does it have good recommendations?

Are you going to have the time and patience to do your own nails at home or would it be easier to go to a nail technician?

Only you will know the answer to that but having your acrylic nail tips professionally done once it a while gives you some instruction and a benchmark to achieve when you are doing them at home. It is also lovely to fell pampered when you are having your nails done professionally!

Natural Nail Care Tips

  • Never use clippers to cut your nails. Always use an emery board to file nails down to size.
  • Regularly apply a top coat of nail polish, almost daily if necessary, to help protect your acrylic nail tips.
  • Make sure you put on a hand cream or hand lotion after washing your hands as soap tends to cause nails to become dry out. Cuticles can be moisturized with Vaseline or other similar products. A very good time to apply it is when you are going to bed.
  • Use nail polish remover as little as possible, especially if it contains acetone as acetone will dry nails out. It is suggested that you use nail polish remover only once a week.
  • Never scrape off nail polish or use anything metal on the nail surface or to push back the cuticles. Metal is much too harsh ands can scrape off protective cells from the nail surface.
  • After a shower, bath or the dishes is an excellent time to do a manicure as your nails will be clean and softer.
  • Try not to bite your nails! It is very harmful to both the nail and the cuticle and may lead to infections that may actually deform the nail.

Artificial Nail Care Tips

If you care for your artificial nails properly, not only will they look better but they will last longer. Consequently they will need to be repaired or replaced less often which will save you both time and money. Have an acrylic nail kit with all the items you need to keep your nails beautifu. Keep your nails looking their best by:

  • File any areas that are lifting and not longer flush with the natural nail, but be careful not to file too much.
  • Do not use glue on any areas that are lifting as most glues are not moisture-resistant and any trapped moisture may contain bacteria leading to fungus and infections.
  • Keep all your nail tools clean and do not lend them to others.
